Dated US market references

These published ranges provide an early budget comparison. They are broad US dollar references, verified on 4 October 2026. Local quotes, selected products and the complete job scope determine your price. They do not populate calculator prices or convert to other countries’ markets.

Hardwood flooring installation: inclusions and source

Market: United States — broad national editorial reference; USD. Includes: Labor and materials in the dedicated Cost per Square Foot section.

Excluded or requiring quote confirmation: Premium species, complex patterns, repairs, special finishing, removal and tax need confirmation.

Premium projects are separately reported at $13–25/ft². The article’s lead incorrectly labels project totals as per-square-foot; those totals are deliberately excluded.

Describe the material and installation

Record species, grade, face width, thickness, solid or engineered construction, finish and installation method. Fixed-length and random-length stock have different layout implications. A bundle’s labeled coverage is the purchasing basis; a nominal width cannot reliably convert area into linear stock.

Ask whether acclimation, moisture checks, preparation, adhesive or fastening, trims and finishing are included. Site-finished and prefinished products should not be compared as though their installation scope is identical.

Choose the supplier’s selling unit

For 100 ft² and a 3 in actual face width, linear length before waste is 100 × 12 / 3 = 400 ft. A selected 10% allowance gives 440 ft. In bundle mode, 20 ft² bundles give ceil(110 / 20) = six bundles for the same 100 ft² project.

Random-length cut optimization needs the actual length inventory. The calculator does not invent that inventory or assume all offcuts can be reused. Reserve matching material intentionally rather than hiding it in the net floor measurement.

Compare delivered and finished totals

Price full bundles or quoted linear length, then preparation, installation, trims, sanding/finish where relevant, delivery and tax. Record quote date, market and currency. The dated US reference above describes ordinary material and installation; premium species and complex layouts can fall outside it. A lower material subtotal may have a different grade, finish or installation scope.
