Tile Calculator

Estimate whole tiles and boxes from face dimensions and net surface area. Grout joints do not reduce the purchasing area.

By Alish Gautam, Software Developer · Updated · Calculation methodology

Start with the editable example below. Dimensions retain their physical size when units change. Region sets currency labels without converting currencies; confirm entered quotes after changing region.

Measured tiled surfaces

Use non-overlapping rectangles. Enter openings as area on the surface they interrupt.

Nominal tile size can differ from actual face size. Cutting patterns, breakage and spare tiles belong in the entered allowance; precise edge geometry uses the layout tool.

How it works

Required tiles = ceil(planned area / tile face area). Boxes = ceil(required tiles / tiles per box). Manufacturer box coverage is also available as a quantity mode.

Assumptions and limitations

Nominal tile size can differ from actual face size. Cutting patterns, breakage and spare tiles belong in the entered allowance; precise edge geometry uses the layout tool.

Whole packages round upward after the chosen allowance. Physical geometry and purchase reserve are separate. Manufacturer and project specifications override editable examples; the selected region does not establish a local code requirement.
