Chain-Link Fence Cost: Fabric, Terminals and Hardware
Chain-link cost depends on more than fabric length. End, corner and gate terminals add connection hardware, while height, coating and access change the installation quote.

Dated US market references
These published ranges provide an early budget comparison. They are broad US dollar references, verified on 4 October 2026. Local quotes, selected products and the complete job scope determine your price. They do not populate calculator prices or convert to other countries’ markets.

Chain-link fence installation: inclusions and source
Market: United States — broad national editorial reference; USD. Includes: Chain-link materials and labor in the overall installed-rate section.
Excluded or requiring quote confirmation: Privacy slats, specialty coating, gates, survey, permits, demolition and site work need confirmation.
Height, gauge and mesh specification affect the quote. No installation or wind-design rule is derived from the pricing article.

Write the material specification
Identify fabric height, mesh, wire gauge and coating, plus line and terminal post specifications. List top rail, bottom tension wire, ties, hog rings, caps and gate assemblies. Privacy slats and exposed sites need separate loading review; an ordinary open-fabric quantity schedule does not cover their design.
The publicly available CLFMI guide provides an installation baseline, while ASTM F567 identifies the installation-practice scope. Neither reference supplies current retail prices. Ask suppliers to price the selected specification, not a generic chain-link package.
Terminations change the takeoff
Two 20 ft runs connected at a corner, at a 10 ft maximum spacing, have four bays and five physical posts: two line posts, two ends and one corner. The corner has two infill directions, so the assembly has four fabric terminations rather than three. That gives four tension bars before unusual system details.
Fabric rolls can be combined across spans if cutting from rolls is practical. Rail sticks are rounded at each span because a corner prevents treating the route as one straight stock length. Ties and band counts must follow the installation specification.
Normalize the bid scope
Compare material quantities, concrete, gates, removal, excavation, stretching, delivery, labor and tax. Record each quote’s date, locality and currency; price-per-foot comparisons should state whether gates remain in the denominator. The dated US reference above includes ordinary installation; it does not price the particular hardware schedule. A quote omitting terminal hardware is incomplete even when its fabric rate appears competitive.

Chain Link Fence Manufacturers Institute: Guide for Specifying Chain Link Fence and Gates
Open the source · Revised March 2017 · Reference checked 2026-10-04 · Published/updated 2017-03
Scope: Installation and specification guidance
Used for: 10 ft maximum line-post installation baseline; 12 in line-post ties; 18 in rail ties and hog rings.
Does not establish: Universal building code; Wind design for privacy slats.
March 2017 document remains publicly hosted; no claim that it is a newly revised 2026 standard. Project specifications can require closer spacing.
ASTM International: F567 — Standard Practice for Installation of Chain-Link Fence

Scope: Installation practice catalogue and published scope
Used for: Standard identity and scope.
Does not establish: Numerical provisions not available in the public abstract; Universal local code requirements.
The published catalogue and scope were checked; no inaccessible numerical provision is asserted. Official catalogue lists F567-23 as active. Numerical installation presets here come from the separately cited CLFMI guide, not an inaccessible standards text.
