Distinguish the system being priced
Open aluminum picket panels differ from solid privacy fencing. Record height, picket arrangement, coating, post and rail specification, panel width and connection method. A sloping site may need rackable panels, stepped panels or custom sections. Those choices can change quantity and labor independently of boundary length.
Confirm whether the product is appropriate for its intended use. Pool barriers, guards and ordinary boundary fences have different project requirements. A boundary-fence material calculation is not a pool-safety or guard compliance assessment.
Use effective installed coverage
For 30 ft of uninterrupted infill with a manufacturer-confirmed 6 ft effective module, ceil(30 / 6) gives five modules. A corner or gate creates a new span that must be rounded separately. Measure centre-to-centre or clear infill according to the supplier’s convention; overall panel width is not necessarily effective module width.
Request a complete hardware schedule, including connections, caps and gate components. Specify whether foundations, brackets to existing structures, and any special end treatment are included.
Compare like-for-like local quotes
Normalize removal, installation, site grading, concrete, delivery and tax. Identify supply-only versus installed pricing and keep quote validity, country, currency and locality in the comparison.
